Park administration to leave KRW 24 trillion in debt on weapon acquisitions to next administration

According to assemblyman Baek Kun-ki and his analysis on the Mid-term (2016-2020) investment for improvement of defense capability, for the 22 weapon acquisition programs that exceed KRW 500 billion, which include TICN, aerial refueling tanker, F-X and KF-X, a budget of approximately KRW 13.6 trillion will be invested under the current administration by 2017, whereas the next administration will have to pay over KRW 11 trillion more, totaling KRW 24.8 trillion by 2020. This stems from the diminishing increase rate of the budget for improvement of defense capability, which is at an average of 3.9% under the current administration.
