ROKA helicopters lacks bulletproof armor plates, making them vulnerable to enemy gunfire

According to National Assembly member Baek Kun-ki, all ROKA utility helicopters, with the exception of four UH-60 that were dispatched to Afghanistan, do not have bulletproof armor plates to protect the crewmen on board from enemy gunfire. As the recently developed indigenous Surion is not an exception, ROKA raised demands for the installment of the armor plates on several UH-60 and CH-47, but the installment was stalled due to time spent on deciding whether to develop domestically or acquire from foreign sources. As there is no budget for the installment in 2016, the program will have to commence in 2017.
