ROKAF CN-235 accidently hits airbase control tower, leading to KRW 280 million in repair costs

ROKAF announced that a CN-235 aircraft hit a Seongnam Air Base control tower on August 26 due to pilot negligence, incurring KRW 280 million in repair expenses. ROKAF official noted that the CN-235 left Gimhae Air Base to avoid an approaching typhoon, but the pilot, who had more than 1,500 flight hours, caused the accident due to unfamiliarity of Seongnam AB’s geographical feature. Both the pilot and co-pilot were referred to a disciplinary board. ROKAF noted that the damage to the CN-235 will be repaired until end of this year, but absence of a CN-235 for four months would inevitably affects ROKAF’s transport capacity.
